At Shama Vikas Samiti, we are committed to empowering persons with disabilities (PwDs) through education, skill development, medical support, and holistic care. Our rehabilitation initiatives aim to integrate individuals with disabilities into mainstream society, enhance their self-confidence, and provide relief and support to their families.

Under the Rehabilitation Programme, we run two key initiatives:

1. Special School for Persons with Disabilities (Cerebral Palsy, Autism, Mental Retardation, Multiple Disabilities)

2. ADIP Scheme (Assistance to Disabled Persons for Purchase/Fitting of Aids and Appliances)

 

1. Special School for Persons with Disabilities – VIKAAS Scheme “RAHBAR”

The Special School for Persons with Disabilities, located at Patel Nagar, Gaya Road, Islampur, Nalanda, provides comprehensive support for children and adults with Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Intellectual Disabilities, and Multiple Disabilities. This initiative is supported by The National Trust, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India, New Delhi.

The VIKAAS Scheme, also known as “RAHBAR”, functions as a day care center where 31 PwDs receive holistic support. The school offers a variety of services aimed at overall development, including educational programs, vocational training, medical care, and respite services for families.

Objectives

• Integrate children and adults with disabilities into mainstream society.

• Enhance self-confidence, life skills, and independence of PwDs.

• Provide respite care to family members, allowing them to attend to other responsibilities.

Key Services

• Educational Support: Tailored learning programs designed to meet the unique cognitive and developmental needs of each student.

• Vocational Training: Practical training to enhance employability and skill sets for future career opportunities.

• Medical Facilities: Regular health check-ups and specialized treatments to ensure the well-being of students.

• Respite Care: Temporary relief for families and caregivers, enabling them to manage daily responsibilities with peace of mind.

• Holistic Development: Activities that encourage social interaction, personal growth, and emotional development.

The VIKAAS Scheme “RAHBAR” has positively impacted the lives of all enrolled participants, helping them achieve independence and better integration into the community.

2. ADIP Scheme – Assistance to Disabled Persons for Purchase/Fitting of Aids and Appliances

The ADIP Scheme, supported by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India, provides essential aids and appliances to persons with disabilities to improve mobility, hearing, vision, and daily living skills.

On 8th July 2024, an aid distribution camp was organized in Islampur, Nalanda, Bihar, benefiting 109 PwDs. The camp distributed a wide range of mobility, hearing, visual, prosthetic, and orthotic aids.

Types of Aids and Appliances Distributed

• Mobility aids: Crutches, wheelchairs, tricycles, walking sticks, CP chairs

• Hearing aids

• Visual aids: Braille kits, low vision aids

• Prosthetic and Orthotic devices: Artificial limbs, braces

Impact

The ADIP Scheme has significantly improved the daily lives, independence, and social participation of beneficiaries. Positive feedback from recipients highlights enhanced mobility, better access to education and work, and improved quality of life.
